My Journey To Becoming A Therapist

The truth is, I think most of us become therapists because we needed one. In our own work we found a passion and purpose for passing it along. My personal experience with addiction in families, codependency, Maternal mental health predates my clinical education and training that followed. I decided to take “you’re too sensitive” or “you care too much” seriously and turned it into a career. For professional details, I’ll add that I began my career working alongside children with additional medical needs and their families. I thought this would lead me to a career in nursing. However, my heart for the family systems, dynamics in relationships, and the emotional process of trauma took over pretty quickly. For many years I have maintained the clinical focus of working with individuals and couples through the “big things” and the “little things”, finding hope and strengthening new rhythms as seasons change.

I Love What I Do

The most rewarding thing about being a therapist is witnessing clients as they discover hope is possible, healing is happening, and they are capable of real growth and wholeness. I can tell you from lots of experience that the soul of humanity is good. People, at their core, are full of love, desire for meaningful connection, and growth. I believe in my clients, their goals, and their healing. I don’t take it lightly that this position is an honor and I hold your experience with immense care.

I am happy to incorporate Christian-based therapy when requested. I hold reverence and respect for all belief systems and believe deeply in the holistic treatment of each individual client- mind, body, and spirit.

I have a natural ability to:

  • Make you feel safe, understood, and supported
  • Help you prioritize, organize, and find solutions that feel manageable
  • Bring ease and lightness to chaos or crisis
  • Inspire a shift in perspective

People who know me often say that my “Mama” nature and humor-led approach helps bring comfort, hope, insight and direction when you’re feeling stuck.

Our Sessions Are Focused On You

Therapists are my favorite lifeguards. We all need someone to swim out and help us back to shore at some point in our lives. Someone who will help us learn how to swim, remind us that we always knew how, and to help us back to shore when we’ve lost sight of it. I’m happy to do that with you.

As A Therapist I Embrace These Philosophies

  • Perspective is powerful
  • One step at a time leads to big changes over time
  • Determining what is in our control and what is not is the foundation of so much healing
  • Keeping everything inside promotes shame. Getting it out ignites hope.
